Cozumel ChankanaabChankanaab

Chankanaab Reef lies several hundred yards offshore near Chankanaab Lagoon.

The site is great for macro-photography. The coral heads are covered with gorgonians and sea fans that are the home to many small marine creatures.

If you meet this guy, look but don’t touch. The Scorpionfish has stinging spines on its fins that it will use if threatened. The camouflage disguises it well when it lies motionless on the sandy bottom near the reef. Swim very slowly and shoot quickly when photographing these beautiful feather duster worms. The tiny Flamingo Tounge is a mollusk that feeds on the coral polyps of a sea fan.
